Lake Nona Area at a Glance
Planned initially as a mixed-use, life-sciences and medical community, the area of Southeast Orlando is now a haven for beautiful housing subdivisions, golf communities, and an array of shopping, recreation and dining options that rival those of its densely packed neighbors throughout Orlando. “Lake Nona Medical City”, as it is often called, is home to the University of Central Florida College of Medicine (and planned Colleges of Nursing and Dental Medicine), the Orlando VA Medical Center, Nemours Children’s Hospital and various other biomedical research and education centers.
In recent years, the area has boomed – both in development and population – growing from just 1,500 people in the year 2000 to a projected 75,000 to 100,000 people by 2020. It’s 17 square miles of master-planned area is made up currently of 12 communities that feature a range of home styles – from apartments and single-family villas, to luxury golf and lakefront estates. There’s truly something here for every budget.
Nona/Moss Park is recognized as a “gigabit community,” thanks to its Internet connection speeds that exceed the U.S. average 200 times over. Things To Do in the Lake Nona Area
Lake Nona Town Center
The Lake Nona Town Center is the shopping & entertainment hub in the area. There’s plenty to do & see here – restaurants, boutiques, public art and event venues. Two hotels – a Marriott Residence Inn and Courtyard by Marriott – are located within the center, making it a convenient place for friends & family from out of town to stay.
Nona Adventure Park
The Nona Adventure Park is the ultimate outdoor adventure for all ages! It’s a water-based entertainment center with an inflatable aqua park/obstacle course, Nona Wake cable park, and 60’ climbing tower/ropes course/rock walls.
Designed with community in mind and constructed out of repurposed shipping containers, Boxi Park is the area’s hub for food, fun, & socializing. With restaurants, bars, and a packed event calendar, there’s something for everyone here!
